TRAVEL RULES AND INSIDER SECRETS ! by Ric Steel |
||
Greetings from a guy that travels 250,000 miles a year and truly enjoys it. I started traveling as a singer with my father and mother when I was born and went "full time" at the age of 11 finishing high school by correspondence. I understand travel and felt that for my first article for EntsList.Com that I would just give an overview of things that usually work to make travel more enjoyable and less traumatic. So lets get to it ! Rule 1 ALWAYS dress nicely. When you walk up to a ticket counter do not expect to be treated like you are a member of the elite unless you look and act like you are. This is a simple rule but so necessary for proper treatment. These wonderful people behind the counter are always "sizing up" the person they are talking to. Take off those sunglasses so they can see your eyes and sincerity. Show that pearly white smile and speak distinctly and with respect to that person. This will always get you miles down the road to your goal of a good seat and less baggage charges ! Yep, I said that ! I know for a fact that many many times I have been slightly overweight ( the bags not me) and been waved on through without charges just because they liked me. This impression starts the moment you walk into the line because they are always watching several people back for trouble. They really do this. Wouldn't you ? I also carry a few cd's in my briefcase when I need to be nicer for some reason. Let me explain...... There is always a moment in time when the person behind the counter begins doing your paper work or checking you in to the computer and things go silent for a minute. It is in that moment when I generally say something like "I have my paperwork from the cruise lines and a CD so you can see why I am traveling today." This almost always causes a short conversation about what I do and lets them see that I am in the travel and entertainment industry just like they are. This kind of courtesy works everywhere but it especially works in airports and train stations. You will go through several situations at every airport these days where you are one on one with a person that can make your journey heaven or hell. All of the people who work in airports have radios and tell others down the line who is coming through and what to watch out for. Even at the gate itself this good karma should continue. A kind " thank you so much !" or a "good morning" will get you tons of kindness returned. So spread the happiness and watch it return to you when traveling. You can write me directly at my address which is Ric@Entslist.com and propose questions and ideas for future articles. I will look forward to your letters. Ric Steel
